These chocolate covered Oreos are one of my favorite no-bake treats, because they’re quick (made with just 4 ingredients!), totally customizable, and always a hit. Chocolate dipped Oreos are easy enough for beginners and perfect for decorating with sprinkles, drizzles, or seasonal toppings. No baking, no tempering–just melt, dip, decorate, and let them set!

Chocolate Dipped Oreos
These chocolate covered Oreo cookies are my go-to for last-minute desserts that look impressive but take very little time. I often use a mix of white, milk, and dark chocolate candy melts to get a variety of flavors and colors, especially if I’m setting them out on a holiday cookie tray. The creamy chocolate shell hardens into a crisp bite, giving store-bought cookies that rich, bakery-style feel. My kids love helping me make these chocolate dipped Oreos, so it doubles as activity time for us too.

The Right Chocolate for Easy Dipping
If you’re new to dipping Oreos, don’t worry–my recipe is super forgiving! Unlike some versions that use almond bark or tempered chocolate, my version skips all that and instead uses candy melts that stay smooth and firm at room temperature. Just microwave, stir often, and dip! After testing different chocolate brands, I’ve found Ghirardelli melts coat more smoothly and harden with a better snap than store-brand chips. I’ve made these dozens of times, and they’ve never failed me.

- Let the chocolate harden fully then serve.
Notes
- Stir the chocolate frequently while heating to prevent it from burning!
- Make sure your Oreos are completely dry and at room temperature before dipping to avoid chocolate bloom (that chalky white coating).
- Do not stab the fork tines into the cream filling of the Oreos when dipping; this could cause the cookie to crumble apart.
- If the chocolate is too hot, it can cause the Oreo cream to melt and the cookie to split; let it cool slightly before dipping.
- Shake off excess chocolate to keep the Oreos from becoming lumpy.
- For easier dipping, use your hand to dip just half of each cookie in chocolate!
- To get these Oreos smooth, make sure to tap the dipped Oreos on the side or rim of the bowl to shake off any excess chocolate. Too much chocolate can cause the Oreos to come out lumpy.
- Feel free to decorate your dipped Oreos with chopped nuts, toasted coconut, crushed pretzels, flaky salt, melted peanut butter, or caramel sauce!
Decorated Chocolate Covered Oreos for Any Occasion
One of the best things about these Oreos is how easy they are to decorate. Use themed sprinkles for holidays, drizzle with contrasting chocolate, or dip just halfway for a minimalist look. These decorated chocolate covered Oreos also make amazing gifts. I like to package them in cellophane bags with ribbon for a festive spin.
