These Cookie Monster cookies are as fun to make as they are to eat! Inspired by the beloved Sesame Street character (and Baskin Robbins’ bright blue ice cream flavor), these sugar cookies are packed with Oreos, chocolate chips, and extra cookie chunks. The best part? I only need 25 minutes and a handful of simple ingredients to whip up these chewy, gooey blue cookie monster cookies!

Blue Cookie Monster Sugar Cookies
I wanted a recipe that captured the playful look of Cookie Monster without being overly complicated, so I started with a sugar cookie mix for the base. That makes these cookie monster cookies super quick and easy, while still giving resulting in a soft, chewy texture. Then I folded in dark and white chocolate chips, crushed Oreos, and even chunks of chocolate chip cookies to create the ultimate cookie mash-up. The vibrant blue color makes these cookie monster chocolate chip cookies a hit at birthday parties, bake sales, or any time you need a dessert that brings instant smiles.

Getting the Perfect Blue Color
For best results, I recommend using gel food coloring instead of liquid. It gives you that deep, bright blue color without thinning out the dough. This small step ensures your cookie monster cookies bake up bold and vibrant every time.

Notes
- For a more homemade taste, you can use homemade sugar cookie dough and simply add the mix-ins and food coloring. This recipe also works with chocolate chip cookie dough, but the blue color may not turn out as bright.
- Be sure to use crunchy chocolate chip cookies as your mix-in. I used the Great Value brand “Chippers,” but you can use any brand or use homemade.
- Feel free to swap in your favorite cookies, like peanut butter cookies or brownie cookies.
- Other fun mix-in ideas include mini marshmallows, graham crackers, caramels, and chopped candy bars!
- Don’t crush the cookies too small, or you won’t get nice crunchy pieces in every bite.
- For a fun surprise, wrap the cookie dough around a whole Oreo or chocolate chip cookie before baking!
- Take care not to overbake the cookies; otherwise, the color will not be as vivid. Pull them as soon as the tops start to look matte.
- Nutritional information does not include optional garnish.
How to Make Cookie Monster Cookies Step-by-Step
Prep: Gather up all of the ingredients you need to begin. Bring the egg to room temperature for 30-60 minutes before beginning. Preheat your oven to 350°F, line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper, and set aside for now. Melt the butter by microwaving it for 30-60 seconds, and crush the cookies by placing them in a Ziplock bag and smacking them with a rolling pin.

Mix the Dough: Mix 17.5 ounces (1 bag) of sugar cookie mix, 1 large, room-temperature egg, ½ cup of melted salted butter, and 1-2 drops of blue food coloring in a large bowl until a thick, blue dough forms. Add more coloring, if needed, until the dough reaches your desired color.

Add the Cookies: Gently fold in ¼ cup of white chocolate chips, ¼ cup of dark chocolate chips, ½ cup of crushed Oreo cookies, and ½ cup of crushed chocolate chip cookies. Stir the dough well so that the add-ins are evenly distributed throughout the dough. Use your clean hands to knead the dough a few times so that everything is well dispersed.

Bake the Cookies: Using a 1½-inch cookie scoop, scoop out dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. I was able to fit 6 on each cookie sheet at a time. Gently press extra chips, cookie pieces, and candy eyes into the tops of the dough balls, if desired, and then bake your cookie monster cookies in the preheated oven for 7-11 minutes, or until the cookies are set but still soft and the edges are just beginning to brown.

Cool and Serve: Allow the freshly-baked cookies to cool for at least 5 minutes before removing from the baking sheet and transferring to a cooling rack. This will prevent them from falling apart. Serve Cookie Monster cookies warm or at room temperature.

How to Store and Freeze
Store leftover Cookie Monster sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before enjoying. Please be aware that the Oreos and chocolate chip cookies may soften when stored, but the cookies will still taste delicious.
