These spooky Halloween white chocolate buckeyes turn the traditional chocolate-covered peanut butter balls into adorable candy mummies. I draped these buckeye candies in white chocolate and added candy eyes to make them a little goofy and spooky. They’re so fun to make for Halloween, and my kids love to get involved in the process. Total mom win!

- “These mummies were incredibly cute and simple to make. I just sent them off to a classroom Halloween party so I won’t know how well they were received by 3rd graders until later… 5 stars for the buckeye mummies! Will definitely make them again for future Halloween celebrations!” -Nancy C.
Buckeye Mummy Balls
Buckeyes are one of my favorite classic candies because they’re super simple to make, yet so rich and delicious! I decided to try making white chocolate buckeyes for Halloween so they would look like spooky little mummies. These Halloween buckeye mummy balls are a bit sweeter than their chocolate counterparts, but they are so delicious and totally adorable! Plus, they’re super easy to make with just 6 ingredients.
All you need is peanut butter, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, white melting chocolate, and candy eyes. The method is much the same as making classic buckeyes, but I added some candy eyes to the top along with an extra drizzle of white chocolate for that mummy look. They’re so fun to make, and my kids love helping!

Anchor Those Candy Eyes
When I was testing this recipe, I ran into a common issue of the candy eyes popping off all the time. To solve this problem, I recommend pressing the candy eyes directly into the soft peanut butter center before the chocolate fully sets. This creates a stronger “anchor” so the eyes won’t pop off during storage or transport–perfect for parties or school treats.

How to Make White Chocolate Buckeyes Step-by-Step
Prep: Gather up everything you need to maker these mummy balls. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. If you store your peanut butter in the fridge, I recommend bringing it to room temperature along with the butter for 30-60 minutes before getting started. This will help everything mix together smoothly.

Beat the Peanut Butter: In a large mixing bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment), combine 1 cup of creamy peanut butter, ¼ cup of unsalted butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Make sure there are no lumps of butter in the mixture.

Add the Powdered Sugar: Once the butter and peanut butter are fully incorporated, slowly add 2 cups of sifted powdered sugar with the mixer running on low. Mix just until all of the powdered sugar is incorporated. It’s important to sift the sugar so you don’t get any lumps.

Shape the Buckeyes: Scoop and roll the peanut butter mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the baking sheets. I like to use a cookie portion scoop for this part, but you can just use your hands. Aim for golfball sized balls. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. This ensures they won’t melt or warp when dipped in the warm chocolate.

Dip the Buckeyes: Once the buckeyes are chilled, melt 16 ounces of white melting chocolate in a medium bowl according to the package directions. Pour ¼ cup of the melted white chocolate into a plastic bag and set it aside. Place a toothpick into one of the peanut butter balls and then dip it into the chocolate. Swirl the buckeye around to coat it on all sides, but leave the top peanut butter exposed. This makes it a true buckeye candy and leaves space for the candy eyes.

Decorate the Buckeyes: Place the peanut butter ball back onto the baking sheet and add a candy eye where the toothpick was. Make sure to stick it into the peanut butter so it doesn’t fall off. Cut a small corner off of the plastic bag off and drizzle the buckeyes to make them look like mummies. If your chocolate has hardened too much, just microwave it for a few seconds and try again. Put the buckeyes back in the fridge to harden for another hour before serving.

How to Store and Freeze
Store leftover Halloween white chocolate buckeyes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. To freeze, spread out the buckeye candies on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, about 1 hour. Transfer to an airtight container or Ziplock bag and keep frozen for up to 2 months. Let thaw at room temperature before enjoying.
