I’m always trying to recreate my favorite Starbucks recipes at home, and I think I’ve finally nailed their Java Chip Frappuccino. Made with espresso, milk, and chocolate syrup, my java frap strikes the perfect balance between creamy and icy. It’s my favorite way to cool down and power up all at the same time!

Java Chip Frap Recipe
I don’t know what drinks are trending at Starbucks right now, but their Java Chip Frappuccino is my absolute favorite! I never get tired of this deliciously chocolatey frozen coffee drink. It’s a great way to cool off in the summer while still getting my caffeine fix.
I mix fresh-brewed coffee, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, and milk in a blender with enough ice to create a frosty-like consistency. I love that this java chip frappe always turns out delicious, since the Starbucks one can vary depending on which store I go to. Plus, this homemade coffee drink saves me tons of money, which never hurts!

Amp it Up!
I regularly freeze leftover brewed coffee into coffee ice cubes so I can cool down my favorite drinks without watering them down. The same is true for this java chip frap. I tested it using my homemade coffee ice cubes, and it was SO good! If you have the extra time (and forethought) to make them, I totally recommend it!

Notes
- Want it even creamier? Add just a splash of heavy whipping cream to your blender.
- I’ve found that I usually only need about 30 seconds to thoroughly blend the ingredients. However, all blenders are different! You may need a bit more or even less time. Just be sure to keep an eye for the short time that you’ll need, that way you don’t over or under-do it. Also, add more or less ice as you see fit.
- This drink is best served as soon as it’s made– I don’t recommend making it in advance.
- I love topping my frap with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, just like they do at Starbucks. However, you can add so much more! Chocolate shavings, chocolate chips, and sprinkles will be tasty on top.

How to Make a Java Chip Frappe Step-by-Step
Prep: Gather up the list of ingredients for this homemade frappe. Brew ½ cup of espresso or strong coffee.

Blend the Drink: Combine ½ cup of brewed espresso, ½ cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup, 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips, and 1½ cups of ice in a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds. Feel free to adjust the amount of ice used to get your desired consistency. For a thicker, icier drink, add more ice. For a softer, creamier drink, add more milk.

Top and Serve: Pour your java chip frappe into a glass and top with whipped cream and additional chocolate chips or chocolate syrup. For a fun presentation, drizzle around the inside of the glass with chocolate syrup before adding the blended drink.

How to Store
Unfortunately, this is one of those make it and enjoy it immediately recipes. When you freeze a java chip frappuccino, it becomes very solid due to the water content. So I don’t recommend making this drink in advance. If you’re in a bind, you can pour the leftovers into an ice cube tray and reblend them with more milk at a later time.
