The chocolate Frosty from Wendy’s is one of my favorite fast food treats, and I’ve brought it to my own kitchen with this homemade recipe! Made with just 4 ingredients, it’s rich and creamy with that wonderful icy texture and intense chocolate flavor I love. My kids like this copycat Frosty even better than the real thing!

Homemade Frosty Recipe
I love a Wendy’s Chocolate Frosty as much as anyone else, but have you ever wondered what’s actually in one? The ingredients list is longer than my arm! So I set out to learn how to make a Frosty at home, and I think I’ve nailed it.
My copycat Frosty recipe is naturally gluten-free and equal parts creamy and icy — just like the real deal! The trick is to use frozen whipped topping and sweetened condensed milk. The whipped topping helps give this Frosty its light and airy texture, while the sweetened condensed milk makes it sweet and thick without being gritty. Rich cocoa powder gives it that classic chocolate flavor, and voilà!

One Simple Trick!
For a richer chocolate flavor, I recommend swapping out the milk for your favorite brand of chocolate milk. You can also use a flavored milk, like coffee or strawberry milk, for a flavored Frosty. Yum!

- Add 4 cups of ice cubes.4-5 cups ice cubes
- Blend until smooth. For a thicker consistency, add an additional 1 cup of ice cubes and blend again.
- Pour into 4 glasses and serve immediately.
Notes
- If you don’t have any cocoa powder, you can use ½ cup of chocolate syrup instead
- I do not recommend using real whipped cream for this recipe, as it won’t create the correct consistency.
- The amount of ice you use determines the consistency. For a thinner Frosty, add less ice. For a thicker Frosty, add more ice.
Make a Dairy-Free Frosty
To make this delicious homemade Frosty dairy-free (and vegan!), just make a few simple swaps.
- First, swap out the frozen whipped topping for vegan whipped topping or Cocowhip.
- Next, swap out the sweetened condensed milk for sweetened condensed coconut milk.
- Finally, swap out the milk for your favorite non-dairy milk. I like coconut or oat milk best.
How to Make a Frosty Step by Step
Prep: Gather the short list of ingredients for this homemade frosty recipe. This recipe will work best if the ingredients are all still cold.

Fill the Blender: Add 12 ounces of frozen whipped topping, 14 ounces (1 can) of sweetened condensed milk, ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 cup of milk to a blender.

Blend it Up: Blend for a few seconds until ingredients are incorporated, then add 4-5 cups of ice cubes. I like to start on the low end with 4 cups and adjust as needed. Blend until smooth. For a thicker consistency, add the additional 1 cup of ice cubes and blend again.

Portion and Serve: Divide the mixture evenly between 4 glasses and serve these homemade chocolate Frostys immediately.

How to Store
While this copycat Frosty recipe is best enjoyed freshly blended, I have found that you can pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and store it for up to 2 weeks. Once ready to enjoy, simply give it another quick blitz in the blender, adding more ice or milk as needed to achieve the right consistency.
