My fur babies are part of the family, so it’s only fair that once I started learning to bake, I learned to make homemade treats for them too! I made these easy peanut butter dog treats with just 4 simple ingredients in 20 minutes, and my dogs love them! They’re crunchy, wholesome, and flavorful. I feel good knowing all the ingredients in the snacks I give my dogs.

Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats Recipe
Whenever I bake cookies for my kids, I feel a little guilty if I can’t give one to my pup too…so I also make peanut butter cookies that are safe and tasty for dogs, so that no one gets left out at treat time!
My peanut butter dog treats recipe is made with whole wheat flour, peanut butter, coconut oil, baking powder, and water–that’s it! They’re super simple to mix together, last for quite a while, freeze beautifully, and taste great too. I’ll never buy store-bought treats again!
Variations and Substitutions
I recommend whole wheat flour when baking treats for dogs, but rice flour and coconut flour are great wheat-free options too.
Peanut butter is my dog’s favorite cookie flavor, but plain pumpkin puree or pureed sweet potatoes can be used instead.

How to Store
Store peanut butter dog treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let thaw at room temperature before serving.
Tips for Success
- Check your peanut butter ingredients list carefully. Many peanut butters now contain Xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs!
- I used an apple corer as my cookie cutter. Depending on the size you want, you can use any cookie cutter or even a pizza cutter to make squares.
- Every ingredient in this recipe is safe for human consumption. Without sugar, these treats may not be as tasty to you as they are to your fur baby, but you can eat them too. In fact, little ones may enjoy them as a healthy snack option.
- My rule in life is always moderation. I recommend starting with only 1 treat to see how your dog tolerates it or if they may have any adverse reactions (possibly to wheat flour). If there are no reactions, you can give your dog 2-5 treats a day, keeping in mind that the treats are about 50 calories each if made the same size as pictured.

How to Make Peanut Butter Dog Treats Step by Step
Prep: First, preheat the oven to 375°F. Then line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine 2½ cups of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of water, ½ cup of peanut butter, ⅓ cup of coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of baking powder.
Form Dough: Mix ingredients with an electric hand mixer just until a dough forms. I find that mixing by hand with a rubber spatula is quite easy too.
Handle Dough: If the dough is quite warm after mixing, let it chill in the fridge for 20 minutes. Then remove the ball of dough from the bowl, and place it on a floured surface.
Roll Dough: Roll out the cookie dough until it is about ½-inch thick. Use a cookie cutter, knife, or small round cup to cut out the dough into pieces. You can make any shape or size you like–just keep in mind larger treats will need a little longer to bake.
Bake: Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet. Then bake peanut butter dog treats for about 15 minutes, or until they begin to turn golden brown. Allow them to cool completely before storing or feeding them to your pups!
Simple enough! Wasn’t sticky when rolling out!
