This easy apple crisp recipe is one of my favorite autumn treats! I mixed tart apples with sugar and cinnamon and topped them with a crunchy oat crumble. I like to add chopped pecans for an extra crunch, and they really set this crisp apart from the rest. This recipe is as easy to prepare as it is to eat!
There are no complicated steps in this easy apple crisp recipe. Just slice, mix, pour, and bake. I used pantry staple ingredients I know I always have on hand to make things easier. This apple crisp is lighter than a traditional double-crust apple pie and way quicker to make. It’s so good with a heaping scoop of ice cream!
What’s in This Easy Apple Crisp Recipe?
- Apples: I like to use Granny Smith since they have a naturally tart flavor that balances out the sweetness of the topping. Cortlands will also work well.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar sweetens the apple filling, while brown sugar sweetens the crisp topping.
- Flour: All-purpose flour helps thicken the apple filling and bind the crisp topping.
- Salt: A bit of kosher salt enhances the flavor of the apple filling.
- Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon adds warmth to the apple filling.
- Oats: Old-fashioned oats make the topping crispy. Quick oats will work in a pinch but won’t be quite as chewy and may be a bit powdery.
- Butter: Unsalted butter helps the topping brown and turn crispy.
- Pecans: Chopped pecans add a wonderful nutty flavor and a delightful crunch.

How to Store and Reheat
I recommend storing this easy apple crisp tightly covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Enjoy cold or reheated in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
Tips for Success
- I prefer to use melted butter to get an evenly mixed crumble topping, but you can use softened butter to create a slightly more uneven result.
- You can double the recipe easily. Just use a 9×13-inch baking pan.

3/4 cup of sugar for the apples is really excessive. Is that a typo/error? Even if you have the biggest sweet tooth, 3-4 tablespoons will go a long long way.
3/4 cup brown sugar for the topping can be reduced to half.
These were the changes I made, hope it helps!
