Fairy Bread with Butter or Nutella and Sprinkles
The magically simple treat that is fairy bread is best known in Australia and New Zealand, but the rest of us don’t have to miss out! The combo of white bread, butter (or Nutella), and sprinkles is perfectly sweet and wonderfully colorful. My kids love to decorate theirs with all kinds of fun sprinkles, which makes snack time feel like craft time too. Made with simple ingredients, I always have this fairy bread recipe ready to put a smile on anyone’s face.

Have Fun with Sprinkles
I used a wide variety of sprinkles to make my bread super fun and festive. I recommend a mixture of jimmies, nonpareils, confetti, and sanding sugar! If you don’t have many colors on hand, you can color your own sprinkles.

Fairy Bread Recipe
Ingredients
For Traditional Fairy Bread
- 8 slices soft white bread
- ¼ cup unsalted butter room temperature
- ¼ cup sprinkles *
Instructions
For Traditional Fairy Bread
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on each slice of bread. The butter should be thin, but thick enough to have sprinkles adhere to the bread.8 slices soft white bread, ¼ cup unsalted butter
- Cut off crusts. Then, cut the slices in half diagonally.
- Sprinkle with candy sprinkles of your choice.¼ cup sprinkles
- Have fun decorating and eating!
For Nutella Fairy Bread
- Spread the Nutella on half of the bread slices.8 slices soft white bread, ¼ cup Nutella
- Cut off the crusts of all slices. Then, cut all of the slices in half.
- Place the plain bread slices on a cutting board or other firm surface.
- Using tiny cookie cutters, cut out a shape out of the plain bread.
- Now place a slice of the plain bread on a slice of the chocolate hazelnut bread.
- Sprinkle the candy sprinkles of your choice in the cut outs.¼ cup sprinkles

Notes
- Make sure you’re cutting off the crusts of your bread before you sprinkle anything on it. If you like the crusts, you can always leave them on instead of cutting them off.
- For the Chocolate Hazelnut cut-outs, if you want to cover the ½ slice of bread with sprinkles first, then you will need to put a little of the Chocolate Hazelnut spread on the top piece of bread in order for it to stick.
- Nutritional information is for 1 slice each of the traditional fairy and the hazelnut bread.
How to Store
Fairy bread is best enjoyed as soon as its made, but extra slices can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
