Sweet and salty snack mixes are my favorite party food, and this Christmas crack Chex mix recipe has been my holiday go-to for years. It’s filled with Chex cereal, pretzels, peanuts, Cheerios, and red and green M&Ms, then coated in white chocolate and finished with festive sprinkles. There’s no baking required for this dessert, just a few delicious ingredients and simple steps my kids can help with!

White Chocolate Christmas Chex Mix

Growing up, my favorite holiday treats were my mom’s puppy chow and Christmas cracker toffee. Both snacks are super easy to make and totally addicting, but I wanted to create my own holiday snacking tradition for my family. I came up with this white chocolate covered Chex mix one Christmas Eve, and it’s been a must-make ever since!

My customizable holiday party mix really has everything. It’s sweet, salty, and crunchy, and it has plenty of red and green spirit from both the M&Ms and the sprinkles. I’ve heard others call this type of snack mix “Christmas trash” as well, so maybe you’ve had something similar. No matter what you call it, there’s nothing not to love about my Christmas Chex mix. And it’s perfect for gifting too, so be sure to make a few batches!

Notes

*I prefer a classic mix of plain Rice and Corn Chex cereal when making snack mixes. But you can use other varieties as you please.
**I use mini pretzel twists, but pretzel sticks work well too.
***I use Honey Nut Cheerios to add more sweetness, but plain or other varieties can be swapped in.
****Salted/unsalted peanuts, cashews, or any type of nut you prefer can be used. Or skip to accommodate nut allergies.
*****Any color M&Ms work, but the red and green makes it more festive.
******White chocolate baking chips can be used instead. Or use semi-sweet or dark chocolate if you prefer.
Tips:
  • This holiday snack mix is highly customizable! Beyond my suggestions above, any ingredient can be omitted or swapped to create the perfect mix for you.
  • This mix is meant to be a little clumpy, so it breaks into chocolate-coated chunks. If you prefer a smoother, looser snack mix: once the white chocolate has been mixed in and the Chex mix is layered onto sheet trays, continue tossing it to avoid large clumps.
  • This sweet treat makes a great gift! Package in mason jars or holiday tins with pretty ribbon and a note.
Storage: Store Christmas Chex mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Top with Sprinkles: Spread the mixture onto 1 or 2 parchment-lined baking sheets. Sprinkle each batch with 1 tablespoon of red sprinkles and 1 tablespoon of green sprinkles (or as much as you like). Let the snack mix set until hardened, about 20 minutes. If you want a less chunky result, continue tossing the mixture every few minutes as it dries.
