When I’m short on time but still want a rich, chocolatey treat, these chocolate cake mix cookies are my go-to. With just 5 simple ingredients, I can mix them in one bowl in under 10 minutes and have soft, fudgy cookies ready to eat in less than 30. I love making chocolate cookies with cake mix because they’re simple to bake up with ingredients I always have on hand, and my kids can’t get enough!

Chocolate Cookies from Cake Mix
The key to perfect chocolate cookies from cake mix is treating the cake mix like a dry ingredient. I skip water and instead let vegetable oil and eggs provide moisture and binding, creating a thick, scoopable dough that bakes into soft, fudgy cookies.
These chocolate cake mix cookies are naturally rich and chewy, and you can easily swap the chocolate chips for white chocolate, butterscotch, or cinnamon for a fun twist. They come together in one bowl in under 10 minutes, and you can even freeze the dough to bake fresh cookies anytime.

Why Cake Mix Cookies Work So Well
Using a cake mix isn’t just a shortcut–it’s backed by baking science. The mix already contains sugar and leavening, which means your cookies will turn out consistently soft, sweet, and perfectly textured every time.

How to Store and Freeze
Store leftover chocolate cake mix cookies in an airtight container or zip-top bag on the counter for up to 3 days. After 3 days, they won’t be as soft and chewy, but you can still eat them or freeze them for up to 1 month. Let thaw on the counter for at least 30 minutes before enjoying.
