Love chocolate cake, but not the frosting?! These super easy Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies are just what you need to get the best of both worlds.

What’s in Cake Mix Chocolate Cookies?
I promise everyone will love these cookies and think they are made from scratch! Made with a box of chocolate cake mix and a cup of chocolate chips, these cookies come out soft, chewy, and delicious!
- Chocolate Cake Mix: Use your favorite brand. I like Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge.
- Vegetable Oil: Adds moisture and fat to the cake mix, creating a lush texture.
- Eggs: Add richness, structure, and moisture to the cake mix.
- Chocolate Chips: Add a burst of melty chocolate flavor.
Pro Tip: If you like your cookies sweeter, add in another half a cup of chocolate chips.
Variations on Chocolate Cookies from Cake Mix
You can really use any kind of cake mix you like. There are so many great chocolate cake mixes, like Devil’s Food, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or German chocolate. Or go for a completely different flavor, like vanilla, carrot, lemon, confetti, red velvet, or strawberry!
Feel free to swap out the chocolate chips for flavored baking chips, like white chocolate, cream cheese, cinnamon, or butterscotch!

While I wouldn’t substitute it one-for-one (cake mix already has a lot of the ingredients we need for cookies), it is a great way to make super easy cookies!
This recipe is essentially having you make soft, chewy cake-like chocolate chip cookies. So, you’ll want to get a box of chocolate cake mix. You could also do the triple chocolate fudge cake mix for an even sweeter treat!
You will want to bake these cookies for 16 to 18 minutes. Your cookies are done when they have a slightly firm golden edge or bottom and appear to be set on top.
Yes, the raw dough freezes well. Simply roll it into balls and place in a single layer on a lined baking sheet. Freeze for 1-2 hours, or until solid, then transfer to a Ziplock bag to store for up to 3 months. Bake directly from frozen whenever that craving hits!

How to Store
You can store your cookies in an airtight container or Ziplock bag on the counter for up to 3 days. After 3 days, they won’t be as soft and chewy, but you can still eat them.
