Chill Before Decorating
Whether you’re using store-bought or homemade Rice Krispie treats, a brief chill in the freezer is a game-changer. It firms up the treats so they hold their shape while dipping in candy melts, and makes it easier to add eyes or sprinkles without cracking or sliding. This simple step ensures your monster Rice Krispie treats look polished and stay intact, even when kids get involved in the decorating.

- Repeat with the remaining treats. Allow the monsters to cool before serving, enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure to stir the chocolate well between melting it in the microwave. The chocolate can burn quickly so watch it carefully.
- If the candy melts seem too thick, add a teaspoon or two of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to thin them out. This also helps if your candy melts seem chunky.
- You can drizzle any leftover melted chocolate over the Rice Krispies to make them extra festive.
- For serving at a party, I like to stick a straw into the bottom of each treat to create a cake pop look.
How to Make Rice Krispie Treat Monsters Step-by-Step
Prep: Unwrap 16 rice krispie treats and lay them out on parchment paper or a plastic cutting board. Alternatively, make a batch of my favorite chocolate Rice Krispie treats and cut them into rectangles. Place colored sprinkles onto a plate or wide bowl and set by your working surface. I like to match my sprinkles to the candy melt colors, but you can go for contrast, too!

Melt the Candies: Pour 12 ounces of candy melts into a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until the candies are melted through and smooth. Separate different colored candy melts into different bowls. I used green, blue, and orange, but any colors will look great.

Dip the Treats: Dip half of a rice krispie treat into the melted candy. Smooth out with the back of a spoon or spatula. If you find the candy melts too thick, add a teaspoon or 2 of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to thin it out.

Decorate the Treats: While the candy is still wet on the krispie treat, dip the top into the sprinkles or use a small spoon to add the sprinkles onto the krispie treat. Add several candy eyes to the front of the krispie treat before the candy sets (it will set quickly) and place down on your parchment paper. Repeat with the remaining treats. Allow the monsters to cool before serving, enjoy!

How to Store
Store leftover Rice Krispie treat monsters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing them, as the chocolate loses its shine once thawed.
